He was the second German to play in the PDC World Championship, and his first-round match against Phil Taylor went all the way to a deciding leg. Schindler won that leg with a 180, which gave him two darts for victory. However, Taylor took out two further legs (including one from 15), giving him four legs remaining to win it all. He then threw away five successive legs before finally losing out by one point after he missed double eight so narrowly that it could have gone either way (a 0).
Schindler's record of 9-5 at this event is not too bad considering how many players have played there since then; including Rosewall who has won three times in total!
